Roots Hal Saturday 5th January 2008 | Nurse 32 Strevens 58 | Tony Roberts - 5 - Let himself down on Saturday. Could have done better with first goal, but I think he had gone down a little early before the shot. Silly sending off. No matter the shambles of a ref, Robbo shouldn't have been there to give him that chance to make a name for himself. We will really miss him now.
Danny Foster - 5 - Does so many good things, but his positioning seems to be poor. Allowed the bloke to run 40 yards at him for the first goal and this often seems to be the case at the moment.
Scott Griffiths - 7 - His best game since returning. Defended as he needed to and got forward superbly to help link with Sloma, Nurse and Strevens. Hopefully a sign of things to come.
Jon Boardman - 7 - Despite letting in 5 (two don't count!!), Stan had a great game. Not only can he defend, but he picked out some great passed forward in this one, and showed he is a good all round player.
Anwar Uddin - 6 - Was having another good game in the heart of defence until he went off injured. Hopefully not a long term lay off as he has been coming back into form.
Sam Saunders - 6 - Worked his socks off again, delivered some good set pieces, and showed a lot of energy. Is definitely good to have him back in the team, despite what some of the home only supporters might say.
Glen Southam - 8 - Back to his best. Worked hard, tried to pass it and drove his team on. I am sure other Clubs will be looking based on this performance.
Shane Huke - 6 - Still worked hard and put his foot in, but was not able to influence the game as he sometimes does.
Sam Sloma - 5 - Got caught the wrong side of the play in defensive positions on a few occasions, and does not really offer an attacking threat. Cannot be faulted for effort though.
Jon Nurse - 8 - Ran the Southend back 4 ragged all afternoon. Took his goal superbly, set the second up through hard work and hopefully the all round performance will give him confidence for the coming weeks.
Ben Strevens - 7 - Another good effort from Strevs. Linked well with Nurse, held the ball up well and took his goal superbly. 4 goals in 3 games. Where are the snipers now!!
SUBS:
Ross Smith - 7 - Great effort to come back in after so long out and play in game like that and not look out of place.
Jamie Taylor - N/A - No time to make impression. Worth a go on left as attacking threat??
Ed Thompson - N/A - Came on in farcical situation.
