A much changed Dagenham side secured 3 vital points at in-form Wycombe this evening with a resolute rear-guard action.
After Saturdays meek surrender to Lincoln, John Still rung the changes in not only personnel but formation. Starting out 3-5-2, into the side came Ross Smith, Jamie Taylor, Peter Gain on debut and Dave Rainford returning from injury. With so many "new" faces and a different formation, Daggers struggled to find their feet in the game and were almost a goal down inside 2 minutes as the Chairboys took advantage of the many holes in the Dagenham back-line. The flame haired Gary Holt was able to advance through the centre of the park before shooting wide when he should have done better. Then Sutton latched onto a through pass that was left by Ross Smith after a loud shout by Tony Roberts but couldnt lift his finish over the keeper when he should have done better.Next it was Scott McGleish' turn to fire straight at Roberts on the volley from 12 yards.

Although the Daggers did have some possession, they were struggling to force themselves onto Wycombe and it appeared only a mater of time before they would grab an opener. On 20 minutes, Sutton had a far post header hacked away by Boardman with Roberts beaten. Then Wycombe appeared to run out of steam as the Daggers started to get to grips with the situation and made the game scrappy, much to their advantage. Dagenham had there best spell of the match leading into half-time, and for a change, grabbed a goal whilst in the ascendancy. They should have taken the lead through Taylor just before the half as he punished a slip by Leon Johnson, forcing a save from the Wycombe stopper when maybe he could have squared to Strevens. The goal came minutes later, Johnson adjudged to have handled and Rainford tucked home the penalty. The whistle blew for half-time seconds later.

So after a well earned cuppa, it was time for the second half onslaught. Daggers had different ideas, taking the game to Wycombe from the off. In fact, Dagenham should have had the comfort of a 2 goal lead. Southams corner found Rainford in acres of space 8 yards out. He fluffed a simple header yet the ball looped up off the midfielders shoulder and almost over Fielding in the Chairboys goal who made a top stop.

From here on in it was backs to the wall stuff from Dagenham as Wycombe came at them with wave after wave of attacks. Chris Moore was introduced on the hour to try and keep hold of the ball but he was a mere spectator, choosing to watch rather than help. On 64 minutes Wycombe should have been level, Suttons header from a Woodman cross was somehow kept out with a conbination of knee and hand by Roberts. The Daggers looked to be wilting under the pressure, as McGleish should have scored when put through but was denied by Roberts again. They held firm though and a combination of good luck and intelligent defending saw the boys head into the final 5 minutes with the lead still intact. It was a nerve-wracking ending however, Knight flashed a cross across the box that begged to be turned it, then 4 minutes extra was shown by the forth official. However the boys held on for an outstanding victory.
