| Football League 2 Victoria Road Saturday 2nd February 2008 | Stockport County
1 McSweeney 6 | Dagenham slumped to yet another home defeat on Saturday as Stockport confortably took the 3 points. Starting with the same XI and system as in the midweek win at Wycombe, Daggers set out to record back to back league wins for only the 2nd time this season. Stockport arrived having sold top scorer and general figure of hatred, Antony Elding, to Leeds on transfer deadline day. In came the "rotund" Adam Proudlock.
Sadly for Dagenham, the scoring for the game was over inside in the first minutes as the defensive formation allowed McSweeney to smash home a superb volley from 25 yards after a period of sustained pressure. The pressure continued as Dicker then had a shot blocked by Roberts before Pilkingtons effort saw Roberts beaten but the ball slid wide. John Still had seen enough at this juncture, hauling off Boardman to make way for Ryan Hall and going to a 4-4-2 formation. Hall's impact was almost immediate, his quick feet and directness began to cause problems for Stockport. It looked like the Daggers had equalised from a Hall corner as Strevens header crashed back off the underside of the bar and away to safety. It seemed that a Dagenham goal would only be a matter of time but Stockport held firm and almost doubled their lead on the stroke of half time, Tansey firing wide.
The second half saw plenty of effort from the home side but in truth, it looked like if there was to be further scoring, it would be the Hatters increasing their advantage. Dagenham sprung to life in the final ten minutes though and almost stole a point. First Ryan Hall found himself in space after good work from Baidoo who was on as a sub. Hall snatched at the volley, almost hitting the corner flag when placement should have ruled over power, then Strevens steered over at full stretch from a Nurse cross. Roberts made saves late on from Dicker and Poole and in truth, Dagenham got what they deserved.
