Dagenhams recent poor form continued on Friday night as they left the rain-lashed northwest without a points return.
The Daggers remained unchanged from Saturdays pasting against Chesterfield, again lining up with 5 across the back looking not to concede rather than threatening going forward. In a first half lacking any real quality or goalmouth threat, it was Accrington who offered the greater threat with Mullin and Craney pulling the strings through the centre but in truth, they only had a series of crosses to show for their efforts. The Daggers joy looked like it would come against the 2 home full-backs, both of whom seemed intent to stop Benson and Strevens through fouling them. Unfortunately the front pair were often isolated but a level score at half time meant the job was part done.

Whatever was said at half-time didn’t do the trick as for the second game in a row, Daggers gave away a soft goal straight from kick-off. With another example of how not to defend a set-piece, Edwards, the smallest bloke on the pitch headed home unmarked from close range. Roberts was rooted to his line but in fairness, Benson ducked under the corner in strange circumstances. Accrington immediately went into survival mode, gifting Dagenham possession high up the park but if truth be told, we never had the craft or the guile to make use of it. Time after time the ball was given up cheaply and when we did get in behind Accy, the extra touch was taken or again the delivery was poor. With Southam strangely substituted, we resorted to ever more long balls hit aimlessly at the front 2. On one of the rare occasions we won a header in the opposition half, Benson just failed to steer home a wayward Nurse volley from 8 yards. He also contacted to well close in with an overhead volley which flew over but it never appeared likely we would grab an equalizer.

Accy finished the game with ten men after an unsightly mid pitch brawl. Richardson saw red for what looked like 2 silly bookings in a minute, Gain and Craney squaring up after a feud that had been simmering tried to get out of control. Craney was lucky to stay on the field after running 30 yards to charge Gain but its fair to say that the little bit of fight had come too late to make a difference.
