The Daggers maintained the status quo at the top of the National conference with a hard fought but vital victory over high flying York City.

The boys went into the game on the back of 2 excellent away victories at Burton and Kiddie knowing that 3 points in this fixture would make life very difficult for the Minstermen in the closing stages of the season. The only change from the Kiddie super show was enforced, Dave the Trombone out through suspension, Jake Leberl coming in as a straight replacement.

Daggers started brightly and really should have gone in front early on through Benno. The leagues top scorer took advantage as the York back 4 opened up in front of him, only to hit the legs of the away custodian. Moments later, he had a more difficult chance at the far post but at full stretch couldn’t quite turn home Slomas low cross. Although York were yet to fashion any real clear-cut chances,  they looked a threat going forward, especially from the impressive Brodie.

Dagenham took the lead midway through the first half, Stan Boardman rising highest to head home Sammy Saunders free kick. The half finished in a midfield battle, neither side looking to give anything away before the break but the Daggers would naturally been the happier of the two sides going in 1 up.

It was York who started the second 45 brightly, Brodie firing over when well placed and controling possession of the ball well. However, Daggers extended their lead with their first real pressure of the half on the hour mark and again "Big Stan" was the man, nodding home another Saunders cross.

York, to their credit and attacking their sizeable away following, were straight back on the attack as you would expect from a side in the top 3. They got a goal back within 5 minutes, the otherwise ineffectual Bishop forcing home after Farrell's shot was parried by Robbo. York continued to press and created several nervy moments as the boys did their best to hang. The men from Yorkshire did hit the back of the Daggers net after a cut back from the by-line, however the York winger was adjudged to have run the ball out of play before crossing. There were few complaints. James Lawson then atoned for given the ball away casually in the centre of the park by somehow scooping the ball over his own bar when York seemed destined to equalize. As York poured forward, Benno should have put the game beyond doubt, Evans in the York goal making an excellent double stop, the second of which was at full stretch.

However, as the game entered injury time (bizaarely 5 minutes worth) it bacame apparent that the boys had weathered the York storm and were going to pick up 3 excellent points from one of their nearest challengers and cap a memorable week.
