Dagenham & Redbridge 3
Mackail-Smith 13, 38 Benson 76 | Nationwide Conference Victoria Road Saturday 6th January 2007 | Woking 2 Blackett 4og Pearce 32 |
Dagenham extended their lead at the top of the table after a hard fought win ocer a battling Woking side who only had a squad of 14 fit players.
Dagenham started the brightest they had for many matches yet fell behind after only 4 minutes on Wokings first attack conceeding for the first time in five league games. A free kick swung in was headed into his own net by Shane Blacket taking his own goal tally for the season to two.
The problem then for Dagenham was to score at the other end which they had struggled to do in recent weeks and after a decent effort from Benson was saved Dagenahm were level. Southams corner was crossed in and the soon for some reason Peterborough bound keeper Shwan Jalal gave Mackail-Smith a present that he duly stuck in for one all.
A dangerous cross caused havoc again at the back as Woking recalimed the lead, Pearce signed the day before scoring on his debut dagenham equalised just 5 minutes later Benson having a shot that conveniently fell to Mackail-Smith who claimed his second.
At half time the rain got heavier and heavier which made the conditions for decent football almost impossible but the entertainment rose and chances were more frequent. Dagenham were hindered by the loss of Paolo Vernazza who went off injured on 54 minutes but it gave the chance for Ben Strevens to make an impression.
Dagenhams winner came courtesy of Benson who nodded in under the body of Jalal from a Sam Sloma cross, the keeper really should of saved it but no one was moaning.
Woking to their credit kept pressing and a late chance for Sankoh almost slippped through Roberts legs but he held on and Dagenham calimed 3 more valuable points
