| Nationwide Conference Saturday 21st April 2007 | Dagenham & Redbridge 1 Strevens | Report The Daggers rescued a point with a late goal on Saturday to ensure that their last away game in the conference didn’t end with an undeserved defeat. However, for long periods of the game it looked like Weymouth would take the 3 points against the stuttering champions.
After a relatively uneventful start, it was Weymouth who converted their first real chance of the game. Nade cut inside Anwar who was already on his heels before slipping, and drove the ball in at Robbo's near post from the edge of the box. Both players will be a little disappointed in the goal but never the less it was a good strike from the forward. Weymouths joy was shortlived as Dutton was sent off after hauling down Rains as he bore down on goal. Referee Ward had to apply the letter of the law but it did seem harsh on the defender.
Weymouth got to the half still in front, sticking all ten players behind the ball, and using the pace of Nade as the outlet. Daggers chances had been few and far between and generally were from distance. Keeper Matthews though was just being warmed up for the 2nd period as at some point the sluggish Daggers were sure to test him. On the hour, the reds should have been on equal terms, Southam in acres of space in the 8 yards out forced a fine save from Matthews (the follow up should have hit the onion bag but don’t know who missed it!!) Matthews then saved brilliantly from Jamie Taylor from point range as the visitors turned the screw. Next It was the turn of Benno to waste a glorious opportunity, dithering over a chance turn out at the far post when a first time strike on target would have seen him score.Again it was Matthews with the block. In between those missed chances, Nade could have sealed it for the Terras, breaking away down the left and curling an effort wide of Robbo's far post.
Finally, with a minute of normal time on the clock, Daggers got the goal that they had been promising. Fossies throw into the box was flicked on by Benno and super Strevs stole in to nod home from close range.
That was the end of the excitement game, both sides happy with their afternoons work. Now it was time for the support to show Weymuff what we're here for...
