Report

The Daggers seemingly relentless march to the promise land of FL2 continued to gather pace on Saturday as they swept aside relegation threatened Tamworth at the Lamb. 3 vital points courtesy of goals from Dave Trombone and super Strevs were enough to leave the boys requiring just a single win to guarantee league football at the Vic next season.

The final score may have been 2-0 but it could have been that within 10 minutes of the start. Dagenham started like a house on fire and Tamworth appeared very shaky. Benno exploited the gaps in the home defence but failed to find the target from 3 decent early chances. It seemed as though an opening goal for the away team wouldn’t be far in coming but as the half wore on, Tamworth started to find their feet a little and made use of the complacency that had seemed to inflict the Dagenham side. By the midway point of the half, the game had turned a little scrappy with neither side imposing themselves on proceedings. Daenham were creating chances but continued to be wasteful in front of goal. As it looked like the half would remained goal-less, Dave Trombone burst forward and found the back of the lack with a looping shot, possibly via a deflection. It was literally the last kick of the half.

Rainsford opener had probably saved his team-mates from a Jonny Still dressing down during the interval but he still would expected the league leaders to take a firmer grip on the game. The second period started with Tamworth upping the tempo in an attempt to get back into the game. They forced a series of corners without the end product, an ambitious overhead volley which went well wide the closest they came. As the game became stretched, the boys started to open up the home side once again.Chances were missed by Benno,Rains and even Scottie Griffiths as the away side sought the decisive second. It was a an inspired 5 minute spell from Benno that won the game. It started with him giving the ball up cheaply and receiving a volley from his colleagues. Benno's next touch of the ball saw the killer second goal as his clever pass released Sammy Saunders who in turn teed up Strevs whilst his final touch in an inspired spell saw an 18 yard volley come back off the home team crossbar.

The home side were dead and buried and all that remained was for Daggers to see out the closing minutes of the match which they did comfortably. Players and fans alike knew this was another pivotal day in this wonderful season.
