Strevens 76 Rainford 87 | Nationwide Conference Victoria Road Tuesday 20th March 2007 | | Daggers produce a fine second-half display to take this hard fought match.
Daggers came bursting out of the blocks and controlled the first fifteen minutes, a long range effort from Southam failed to test the visiting keeper, and a superb turn and shot from Strevens was only inches over the bar. This however seemed to spark Stevenage into action, they bossed the rest of the half, but found Daggers in no mood for letting in goals. Two clearances off the line and several last ditch lunges meant that all of Stevenages efforts went unrewarded and Daggers went in with a clean sheet at half-time.
Not sure what JS told the team but it was probably too much to repeat in the presence of children, but it seemed to do the trick and Daggers came out for the second half confident of the win. Daggers produced a fine display and battled hard for the three points, the first goal coming from a free-kick on the right, the ball fell kindly for Strevens eight yards out and he duely smashed the ball into the bottom corner. Daggers carried on with the attacking with several more shots on target from Moore and Benson, but it was left to Dave "Trombone" Rainford to finish the night with a neat half volley from six yards after Stevenage failed to clear a corner (to celebrate he decided to run the furthest he'd run all night!!).
The final whistle couldn't come quick enough and Daggers extended their lead to twelve points at the top, with Oxford playing tonight every Dagenham fan will be cheering on Halifax I'm sure (or maybe not!!).
