| | Kidderminseter Harriers 1 Blackwood 8 | Nationwide Conference Tuesday 20th February 2007 | Dagenham & Redbridge 4 Benson 10 Kenna 59 og Bnson 62 Strevens 84 | Report Dagenham extended their lead at the top of the Conference to 10 points with a 4-1 victory at Kidderminster. The game was the Daggers game in hand over York and Oxford, and with 14 games now to be played by all three teams it is the pub team from Essex who hold the advantage.
However, in this game it was Kiddie who started the brightest, and Tony Roberts had to pull off a stunning save as early as the 3rd minute to keep Mark Yates' side at bay. However, just minutes later Michael Blackwood managed to elude the visitors back line and slot past Roberts. There was no need to panic though. With their first attack of the game Southam played in Ben Strevens and when the ball fell to Paul Benson he slotted home past Bevan. The rest of the half saw chances for both sides, although Kiddie's attacks were the more fluent of the two teams, and the sides went in at 1-1.
After the break it was again Kiddie who came out the liveliest. Roberts had to be on his toes on two occasions, and Constable struck the foot of the post as the visitors clung on. However, just before the hour mark the league leaders broke and Benson flicked on for Strevens. His low cross was meant for Benson but was met by Kiddie defender and ex Blackburn legend Jeff Kenna who scuffed the ball into his own net. 6 minutes later and the visiting fans were treated to one of the best goals they will ever see. Paul Benson chased down a back pass to Bevan and the ball rebounded off him, high into the air near the corner flag. Benson coolly controlled the ball as it dropped and then proceeded to volley the ball over Bevan and two defenders and into the top corner, from only 3 yards from the corner flag!!! (view the goal here) Cue wild celebrations from both players and supporters. The game continued to be open as the home side looked for a goal to get them back in the game. However, they were no longer able to get behind the Daggers defence and their efforts were now restricted to long range shots. It was from yet another counter attack that the leaders struck again. Benson's flicked pass found Strevens and he coolly ran clear from his marker and drew Bevan before sliding the ball home.
