Benson 46,55,90 Mackail-Smith 69 | Nationwide Conference Victoria Road Saturday 6th January 2007 | | A hat-trick from Paul Benson capped off a fine performance from the Daggers.
The first half was a bit of a non-event, a few chances for both sides but none were too clear cut so I will say no more on it!!
The second half the Daggers came out firing on all cylinders, early pressure paid off when Griffiths volleyed a cross-come-shot which was expertly glanced in by the head of Benson. This didn't stop the Daggers either, they continued to attack and after a bit of head tennis the ball was nodded down to Benson to hit first time on the volley and into the right hand corner. This seemed to spark Exeter into a little bit of life (not much though) and thanks to Uddin losing his footing a cross allowed Carlisle to finish well. Again Daggers didn't let this stop them attacking and Rainsford battled well in Midfield and produced a fine pass to CMS whose first touch didn't let him down and he was able to dink the ball over the on-coming keeper and into the back of the net. Daggers were cruising at 3-1 and late into injury time substitute Strevens played a through ball on the counter for Benson to run on to, Benson coolly rounded the keeper and tapped in to bring up his Hat-Trick.
Overall some great attacking football from the Daggers, even when it looked like Exeter could get back into it Daggers didn't shut-up shop, but instead carried on flying forward and got their rewards, and three points to take them nine clear.
