Report

Super Sammy Sloma grabs the headlines for the Daggers with a stunning double which maintains the 7 point gap at the top of the Nationwide Conference.

Daggers went into this tricky fixture away at Burton, a side still harbouring hopes of an end of season play-off berth,  with new loan signing Lawson being joined on the bench by a "rested" Leberl as Jonny Still aimed to freshen the side up after last weeks home defeat to in-form Rubbish and Dustbins. The game started brightly for Dagenham, Benno through on goal forcing a save from the 45 year old Burton custodian, Kevin Poole. The Burton defence seemed as square as usual in the early stages as Daggers seemed to find space at will without the end product. Burton however should have scored with their first attack, ex Charlton man Rowett missing a header when well place and showing just why he is "ex". The game was still to settle into any real patten when Sloma grabbed his first and it was a Peach. A short free kick routine from the right seemed to have broken down as Dave trombone retrieved the ball. His short pass into the run of Sloma was gleefully smashed home on the angle from 16 yards, the 52 year old Poole given no chance.

There was little else of note to mention in the first half apart from Rowetts growing frustration at the play of Annie and Stan as they refused to let the makeshift striker out of their preverbial pockets. Rowetts efforts earned him a booking.

Half time came and went with a quick pint and a re-run of the goal, the Daggers faithful happy with the situation and looking for more of the same.

Burton naturally came into the game a little more in the second half without ever really threatening to deprive the boys of 3 well earned points. Ducros did force a smart stop from Robbo after some tidy footwork but in fairness, the home side had little to show after some concerted pressure. Indeed it was the Daggers who almost doubled their lead as Moores pace outstripped the cumbersome Burton backline only for the 64 year old Poole to turn away his drive. Strevens, who looked in good touch after to coming on for Mooro, also saw a good chance slide wide. However, as the game became more open, their was a growing feeling that Daggers would score a second to seal the win and it duly came in the 86th minute. A free kick given for a foul on the edge of the box was "daisyed" past the ever aging Poole to gave Sloma his second of the afternoon.

3 vital, well earned points and on to Kiddie on Tuesday…
