| PRE MATCH Midweek away games always require a bit of rushing around for most people. Browns, who had bunked off work, met Stew at Canary Wharf for a few early beers, and they were also joined by Sav, who came out of town for a pint to then go back in!! Strange lad!! Middle, starting to realise all jobs are not as cosy as IFDS, just about made it out of work in time to meet these three to head to North London for the train. Having just made it to Marylebone on time they were met by Dogva, Gobless and Jeff, on a rare appearance. With only 10 minutes till the train, some could not resist a pint, especially as Jeff was apparently seen with his wallet open near the bar. We then boarded the fast train to Wycombe which was somewhat busy. Can they not lay on more then 4 carriages per train!! Browns, who was by now way past his 3 pint limit, was starting to make a nuisance of himself, and nearly broke some commuter's laptop!! On arrival at High Wycombe station we jumped into two cabs to the ground, and the numbers were made up by fellow Daggers fan Steveooo who was on our train. The ground is miles from anywhere and the traffic is a bit of an issue getting near it. I dread to think what it was like when Chelsea were there last season!! We were there on time though and most even had time for dinner at the burger bar before the game started. Chappie then arrived just before kick off having driven straight from work, and baring a striking resemblance to a giant plumb!!
ATTENDEES All the Big Four, Middle, Chappie, Stew and Dogva, other regulars (sort of), Gobless, Saviola and Browns and a guest appearance from Jeff. No really good excuses for non attendees. Winkle continues to be illusive, while Bobby did threaten a rare appearance but on realising we would not be home in time for a curry then declined.
CROWD Just under 4,000, one of the home side's lowest of the season. Good job really as getting in and out of the ground with any more there would have been a right mission. No official number of Daggers fans, but I guessing about 140. Doesn't seem a lot, but Wycombe is not as close as people think, and after Saturday's loss some may have been put off!!
GAME Well, what a change from Saturday!! The team itself was totally different, and the changes worked to perfection. OK, we had to defend for long periods and rode our luck at times, but we stuck to a gameplan and thoroughly deserved the victory. Special mention to Rains for an excellent performance and a cooly taken penalty. If only we can put a 3 or 4 game run of results together we could get stay up!!
POST MATCH Special mention here to Si and Robbo from the HLP. We were worried we would not get back to the station quickly, and would have to wait for the 11.06 back to London. Therefore Si and Robbo took two of us each and the rest jumped in with Chappie. A little traffic on the M25 slowed us down for a bit, but a whole lot better than sitting at Wycombe station for 50 minutes in the cold listening to Browns!! Stew accepted Robbo's very kind offer of door to door service, leaving Middle and Sav to wait ages for a train at Dagenham East having turned down Si's equally kind offer of a drop in Upminster, because they had said they were meeting Stew at Dagenham East!!! Oh well. Home by midnight, when we could well have been rushing round Marylebone trying to make the last tube. Pints on there way to Si and Robbo on Saturday!!
