Pre Match:
Surprise, surprise a 12.30 meet in the Yeoman!!!!!  The Magic of the Cup had bought out a few less regular members!!!!  Ingrid (the Landlady) persisted with the broken pool table meaning more games costing nothing!!!! Dead Blokes recent good form on the baize deserted him, while Stew's Rolls Royce cue action saw him on a good streak.  Jeff the Sheep arrived looking like death warmed up after two pints the night before, while Pedro's late night effort at Palms the night before also left him looking a little under the weather!!!!

Attendees:
A bumper cup crowd from the Upminster Daggers.  Regular's myself, Stew, Dead Bloke, Doggy, Skippy and Browns, and   new regular Winkle.  Pedro and his father BP and Welshman Jeff made up our numbers as we left the pub.  We were joined at the ground by Count (see Gobless Corner for more details!!!) and the now regular Homer, late as always!!!!

Crowd:

People had been talking about 3,500-4,000, but the eventual crowd of around 2,700 was more what I expected.  Oxford's boast that they would sell all their 1,600 tickets turned out to be rubbish (why do clubs bulls**t about things like this??), but their following of around 1,100 was still very impressive.  Noise in the Dagger section was very good, the atmosphere this year has generally been good every week.  Mr Duffy and Mr Brevett came in for a fair bit of stick, deservedly, as did the officials who even by regular standards were an absolute joke!!!

Game:
Not a classic, but a bruising encounter between two strong, physical sides, who for the most part cancelled one another out.  As in the league game in August, we had more possession and territory, Oxford had that little bit more composure and strength.  Game was decided on the story of two penalties.  A horrendous decision gave Oxford a penalty just before the hour, put away by that w****r Duffy, and then a clear cut decision with ten minutes late gave us the chance to level.  Southam's penalty was poor, and was saved by Turley, who was on his feet quick enough to save the rebound from Rainford.  Our cup run over before it had really started!!!

Post Match:
A return to the Yeoman for most people.  The good news on our return was that Boston, Orient and Grays had all lost, and that the Hornchurch fans had turned up in the pub, meaning we at least had someone to laugh at!!!!  We then watched a scintillating 0-0 between Newcastle and Charlton before most people went their own ways.
