2 Arber 30 Strevens 79
| PRE MATCH The main group managed to meet at Upminster at a very early 7.30, while those travelling from the sticks, Middle, and the hood, Deaders, met at Liverpool Street and then met the others at a packed Kings X. Dagenham players appeared not to be on our train this week, but Blackheath Rugby Club, and their coach Michael Winner, were. After recent disturbances in the group, beer was banned for the outward journey, and so coffee, pastries and papers were sourced for the journey on the train to Leeds. Train was relatively uneventful, apart from a couple of games of poor quality trumps, and we arrived in Leeds just before lunch and headed to take in some Northern Culture............in Yates!!! We were soon joined there by our friend in the North, Shaun of the Dead, still with no haircut. A few drinks in there and we also managed to pick up a comedy inflatable traffic cone which provided much amusement!! Then off on the local train to Bradford, and then a trek uphill to the ground, and in there at about 2.50pm. ATTENDEES The Big Four, plus Savs, Browns, Mardle and associate member Yoof, and Shaun of the Dead. No excuse given for non attendance by Gobless and Winkle. CROWD Well, small really, just over 13,500!!! Largest league crowd the Club has ever played in front of, and certainly the best ground we have played a league game at, and maybe a game of any sort. City fans did not make to much noise, as we were playing so well, and even if they had, they seemed miles away so we may not have heard!!! 166 from Dagenham which was not a bad effort, and good noise throughout!! GAME Well, just seeing us play at Bradford was something we never thought would happen, let alone winning. We were full value for it as well. Controlled it for most parts, save for a couple of patches in the second half. Tidy goals from Arbs and Strevs, penalty save from Robbo and big performances all over the pitch. Top stuff. POST MATCH Having been "held in" for ten minutes, we made the long downhill walk back to the station. We were escorted for most of the journey by members of the Bradford under 5s, who even shared their sweets with us. On arrival at the station Middle seemed paranoid about what they and some of their mates might do and insisted everyone coughed up a fiver to get a cab straight back to Leeds!!! It did at least mean we were dropped off right outside a pub charging half for drinks as compared to what Yates' do, and this filled the time before the train back to London. Normal banter with other fans on the train (Coventry and Wycombe amongst others) and also time for Stew to sort his eyes out having lost a contact lens in the celebrations following the second goal!! Arriving in London at just after 9, Yoof needed to be woken up before rushing off to get back to his cellar in Billericay. We are not sure if he made it?? The rest of us took the tube, and we managed to lose Deaders at Liverpool St before jumping on the train back at Fenchurch Street. Sav took a nap, and but for the kindness of Stew and Middle would just now be waking in Shoeburyness!!! A quick one in the pub, and then off for food then bed.
