| Football League 2 Dean Court Tuesday 21st October 2008 | Dagenham & Redbridge 1 Nurse 72 | Pre Match:- Staggered meet times for the UD's for a midweek fixture a million miles from home. Some choose an early work leave and a few beers on the wharf (in the company of Wayne Mardle) whilst some actually had to work! The drinkers met up with deads at Waterloo, just in time for another quick pint and a stock up on tinnies for the train. The first shock of the day came in the form of coach "j". The phantom coach didn't exist but this was apparently where we sitting so it was a nice journey standing all the way down south!! It seemed a few others had exactly the same problem although this cheered up Deads when the Swedish Sailors jumped aboard. Brooner again had a problem with a commuters lap-top, this one fully warranted after he rudely asked us to shut the door and keep quiet. Understandable really when he was telling the world how good speedway is! After some good rush hour banter, the sunny south was reached it it was off to the boozer once more. After a swifty as we waited for Middle to catch up, it was time to try and get into the ground. (well the mechano set they call a ground) and this proved the most arduous task of the day. Being directed by the stewards to the away end ticket office was easy enough. However it wasn't open so after a full lap of the stadium, and the game about to get under way, we were back where we started. At this point we then found out that the ticket office wouldn't serve rude and aggressive customers which is most unreasonable! Most of the crew entered the far side of the ground again whilst others tried to negotiate entry with the chief steward!! Luckily he relented in time so we could all enjoy the abject performance to come!!
Attendees:- Big 4 and Browner.
Crowd:- 3 and a bit thousand in attendance, the home fans only heard when they were well on top. 3 sided ground with little atmosphere, the 100+ Daggers didn't try to improve it as they were very unimpressed by happenings on the pitch. Stewards left us to our own devices in the ground which was fair enough.
Game:- Very poor from the Daggers, system change to 4-5-1 showed them too much respect and after weathering our early storm, Bournemouth exploited the huge holes on the pitch. They looked like a side lacking confidence but we never really tested it. Only after Nurseys introduction did we show any real purpose but it was too little too late.
Post Match:- After 5 minutes of injury time, it was time for a march to Pokesdown. After a quick display of greco roman wrestling from Middle and Brooner which resulted in heavy casualties, it was a lovely long wait at the quaint, battle scarred station before a ridiculously long journey back to the real world. This had to be manfully achieved by the chaps without provisions! Finally docking at Waterloo after 1 in the morning, the tired, hungry and thirsty travellers were grateful to see an uppercrust still open for refuelling! A cab ride home and a bit of snooze was accomplished but not after an unprovoked attack by a drunken tramp claiming to be the cabbies brother! | | | |
