PRE MATCH Very low key as the credit crunch appears to take it's toll on everyone!!! With attendees down and those going all heading from different directions, it was mainly a case of meet in the ground. Lack of tubs meant Stew was in the drivers seat again for those heading from Upminster, Winkle wedged on to the 103 from Romford, Gobless came in from Barkingside and Middle was delayed playing gay sticks in Mile End (he did apparently score two goals in a 7-5 win though!!).
ATTENDEES Very poor. Dogva, Stew and Middle were the only 3 from the big 4, Gobless, Cabbo, Skippy and Winkle were there from the regulars, and Associate UD Yoof made his first appearance for a while. Excuses were varied. Deaders was playing gay sticks and looks set to miss out on a Champions League spot this season. Broons was away for the weekend AGAIN, and has just 6 appearances so far to his name. The youngsters all failed to turn up, and the non regulars were obviously put off by the weather, the transport and the opposition!!
CROWD Very poor, but then it was always going to be. Was basically the 1,400 regulars, plus the away support (about 60). Only for the Bury and Barnet games has this changed, where the home support was up to nearly 2,000. We are clearly not being helped in attracting any local floaters by the continuing tube issues every weekend, and I am not sure what else the Club can do. Maybe a kids for a quid day to encourage some interest or a family day where adults bringing kids get in for a tenner or something?? Anything to try and get the average gate back above 2,000.
GAME Those who stayed away probably made the right choice!! Lots of endeavour from both sides, but a lack of quality, and all this was not helped by the awful conditions!! Accy hit the post twice early on, but the longer the game progressed, the happier they were to settle for a point. After those 3 defeats in a row, I think most would have settled for 4 points from the two home games.
POST MATCH As with the rest of the afternoon, very low key!! Most just went in their own directions for the evening, with very few heading back to the pub to discuss the afternoon's events!!
