The Daggers have 16 games in which to save themselves from falling back into the Conference. There is much debate as to how many points are needed for survival, but looking back at the last 10 years, somewhere between 45 and 50 points has been needed to come 22nd, the position we need to be in (or higher) to survive. We currently have 25 points in the bank, so where will we pick up points between now and May? The Upminster Daggers give their predictions for the remaining matches. This may of course be totally wrong, and is simply our opinion, and is likely to cause some debate!
CHESTER CITY (H) - 12/02/08 Chester are just about the most out of form team in the country at the moment, with no win for quite a while. However, they will come looking for a point so not to get dragged nearer the bottom, and will therefore be tough to break down. Therefore a scrappy game will no doubt take place, but the Daggers should have just enough to get through this one. PREDICTION - WIN (28) RESULT - WIN 6-2 (28)
GRIMSBY TOWN (A) - 16/02/08 Grimsby were struggling themselves a couple of months back, but picked up in December and January to move into mid-table. However, we took a point off them two weeks back and they don't have a great home record, and we may well scrape a point. PREDICTION - DRAW (29) RESULT - WIN 4-1 (31)
MORECAMBE (H) - 23/02/08 Morecambe were the form side of the Division through late December and early January, but have dropped off in recent weeks. They did not look a great side when we played up there in January, and we should have taken a point. Our home record against them is good and we should pick up the points. PREDICTION - WIN (32) RESULT - WIN 2-0 (34)
HEREFORD UTD (H) - 26/02/08 Although this should be a tough game for our visitors on a Tuesday night, they will have taken great confidence from last week's result, and for us to turn round a "deficit" like that from the away game will be too tough. PREDICTION - LOSS (32) RESULT - WIN 1-0 (37)
BRADFORD CITY (A) - 01/03/08 Bradford slipped up at home last weekend, but have generally been in good form in the last few weeks. A long journey North for the Daggers and a game which looks too much for them on current form. PREDICTION - LOSS (32) RESULT - WIN 2-0 (40)
PETERBOROUGH UNITED (H) - 08/03/08 The Posh are flying high at the moment, but have slipped up against lowly sides such as Wrexham and Macc in recent weeks. That should give the Daggers some hope, but the visitors will surely prove to strong. PREDICTION- LOSS (32) RESULT - LOSS 2-3 (40)
MACCLESFIELD TOWN (H) - 11/03/08 Macc are struggling like ourselves. Their ability to win the odd unexpected game every few weeks is just about keeping them afloat at the moment, but by this stage this is likely to be a six pointer, and home advantage should see the Daggers home PREDICTION - WIN (35) RESULT - LOSS 0-1 (40)
MK DONS (A) - 15/03/08 The Franchise have been a little shaky of late, and have lost a few. However, they are very strong, hence their lead at the top, and in all honesty, it is difficult to see anything but a defeat for the Daggers. PREDICTION - LOSS (35) RESULT - LOSS 0-4 (40)
SHREWSBURY TOWN (H) 22/03/08 Until the sending off in the away game with the Shrews we were matching them. They are very much in mid table and by this stage their season will probably be over, and so this is the sort of game we should get something from. PREDICTION - DRAW (36) RESULT - DRAW 1-1 (41)
WREXHAM (A) - 24/03/08 Who knows what the positions will be at this stage of the season, but Wrexham have certainly picked up in recent weeks. Crucially Brian Little has bought in players with experience and nouse, and that will probably prove to much for us as it has done many times this season. PREDICTION - LOSS (36) RESULT - DRAW 0-0 (42)
CHESTERFIELD (H) - 29/03/08 The Daggers came away from Saltergate in October with a valuable point, having been run ragged in the first half. Chesterfield look like making the play offs, but have been a little inconsistent at times. Threatens to be an entertaining game which the Daggers could get something from. PREDICTION - DRAW (37) RESULT - LOSS 0-3 (42)
ACCRINGTON STANLEY (A) - 04/04/07 A long trip North on a Friday night does not look great, but Stanley are not in great form themselves, and the Daggers have a great record at this ground and should get something here. Will this be the lowest League Two crowd of the season?? PREDICTION - WIN (40) RESULT - LOSS 0-1 (42)
ROCHDALE (H) 12/04/07 Rochdale are having one of their best season's for some time, but are not unbeatable. This is the Daggers penultimate home game of the season and they will be determined to get a win to ensure their last home game of the season is not a dead one. PREDICTION - WIN (43) RESULT - DRAW 1-1 (43)
ROTHERHAM UNITED (A) 19/04/07 Rotherham are going well under former Man Yoo star Mark Robbins. They looked a good side when they visited us earlier in the season, and by this stage will probably be looking to secure promotion. A real tough one for the Daggers. PREDICTION - LOSS (43) RESULT - LOSS 1-2 (43)
DARLINGTON (A) - 26/04/07 The Daggers last away game of the season is a tough one, against another side looking to make it into League One. However, Darlington have slipped up against some of the lesser sides, and the Daggers are historically at their best when up against it!! PREDICTION - DRAW (44) RESULT - WIN 3-2 (46)
MANSFIELD TOWN (H) 03/05/07 It's impossible to know who will be where by May, but Mansfield may well still be in trouble themselves. Likewise, who knows where we will be or where our points total will put us. However, if we need to get something, we may well upset the odds and claim the points needed for survival. PREDICTION - WIN (47) RESULT - WIN 2-0 (49)
PREDICTION: To Play 16, Win 6, Draw 4, Lose 6, Points 22
RESULT: Played 16, Won 7, Draw 3, Lost 6, Points 24 |
