With the season now well and truly done and dusted, the Upminster Daggers take a look back at their favourite games of the season.
We have been debating two things. The best Daggers game of the season (either home or away) and the best Upminster Daggers day (or weekend) out of the season. Of course, many of these will overlap. All 7 regulars were asked to pick their top 3 in each category with 3 points given for a first choice, two for a second and one for a third. With regards to the best away day/weekend there was a clear winner from the 7 voters, and that was the weekend away in Darlington/Newcastle. This was made all the better of course by the amazing result and the fact it meant we were clear of relegation. Of the 5 voters who attended this weekend 5 put this weekend top of the pile, while one put it second. Amazingly two people managed to find an excuse not to attend this game!!!! In second place was the day out at Notts County, proving that it can still be a good day even if the result and the game are a load of rubbish. All 6 of the voters who attended this game put it in either second or third place. It was with great relief for us that Notts County and ourselves survived meaning a repeat visit to Hooters next season!!! In third place was the day out by the seaside at sunny Grimsby (or Cleethorpes really!!!). This was an excellent day, friendly people, good train journey, good result. Looking forward to this one for next season as well. Other days/weekends which got a mention were the weekend away at Bredbury Manor for Macclesfield, the first ever league game at Stockport, the Friday all nigher at Accrington, the visit to Chesterfield and the day out at Bradford. Some of the same games appear on the list of favourite games of the season. Top of the list by a clear distance was the away win at Darlington. The manner of the victory and the importance of it meant that this was always going to be top of the pile. In second place was the away win at Bradford. To go to a stadium like that to see the Daggers play a League game was something most people never thought they would see, and to see us record such an impressive 2-0 victory was brilliant. In third place was the Daggers biggest away win of the season at Grimsby Town. Grimsby were the form team of the Division at that time, and yet the Daggers outplayed them from start to finish on the way to a 4-1 win. Other games to get a mention were the home demolition of Chester City, the nervy home win over eventual promotion winners Hereford United, the exciting away win at Brentford, the gutsy midweek victory at Wycombe Wanderers and the JPT win at local rivals Orient.
